YouTube Video Contest

It occurs to me that I have not yet specified exactly what will happen in the Game when the Gulf Stream Stops (thermohaline component). I would like an authority figure (mad professor, Bush, Moses, whomever) to explain what will happen in a Youtube video.

The winner (and as many runner-ups as I like) will receive free exposure on my site. I may also use the video in community presentations where I will credit the winner. I will also send 5% of my February & March 2007 adsense revenues to the winner. (Fair warning: my first 2 weeks of blogging have generated  . . .  a nickel. We may not get rich doing this.) This will be the only compenstion you will receive for the use of your video.

The video must include the following: 

  1.  Explanation of how the Gulf Stream could stop. Must be reasonably factual. Poseidon theories not acceptable.
  2.  Implications for the US northeast. (Specified by game designer – me.)
    The climate will become 2 climate zones cooler – sort of like Canada’s. 
    Winter and Summer will become drier 
    Spring and fall will become wetter
    The Midwest will become a dustbowl
    Water coming into the Great Lakes will decrease so it won’t be available for Midwest irrigation (it will also be tied up in contracts to irrigate Las Vegas.
  3.  Although these things are by no means certain, the video must conform to the game premise that these things are known. (A disclaimer saying that the video is for a strategic planning game and the information presented is not meant / hoped not to be really true is fine.)
    The winning video will be determined solely on the basis of which one I like the most. The winning video will probably be funny. Points will be given for supporting information presented and tied to peer-reviewed scientific articles (not necessary, but I’ll be impressed). Any minor recognizable in the video should be prepared to have their parent(s) assure me that they approve of your participation. Nothing nasty - that not only means that your grandmother will be proud of your effort, it means you didn’t violate any copyright rules.

To enter you must leave a comment linking to your video. If I think your video didn’t follow the rules, I’ll delete the comment. To win the cash prize you must register, leaving an email and name of an adult. (Although I assume that kids are going to enter this, adults are welcome too.) 
The winner will be determined on May 1st, 2007.
